With human-like features and a soft voice, the presenter Natcha made her debut on Thai television, becoming the first AI-created news anchor in the Southeast Asian country.

The news program “News Alert” on Nation Tv channel began its segment with Natcha, with black hair and dressed in a blue suit jacket, delivering headlines on political news.

Natcha, identified by a caption as “AI presenter,” will soon be joined by a second reporter also generated by artificial intelligence, Nitchan.

“AI reporters will help support the work of our editorial department, allowing human reporters to have more time to focus on gathering and verifying information,” announced Apirawee Pichayadecha, CEO of Nation TV, last week.

The director of the Thai channel, part of the Nation Group media conglomerate, assured that their new AI reporters will also serve as ambassadors for the channel, one of the country’s main ones, and will participate in other news events.

“Most importantly, AI has no language barriers and, therefore, can provide unlimited information to viewers without any restriction,” Apirawee emphasized about their new employees.

The use of AI-generated presenters is on the rise, primarily in Asia.

In 2018, the Chinese news agency Xinhua introduced Qiu Hao, making him the world’s first AI-created presenter.

Since then, other countries such as India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan have also introduced AI-created presenters in their main news programs.
