Navalny’s mother says she is being coerced to accept a “secret” bury of her son

Lyudmila Navalnaya also mentioned that the investigators let her see his body after days of denying her access to the mortuary.

Lyudmila Navalnaya, the mother of Alexei Navalny, who was the main rival of Russian President Vladimir Putin and who passed away in an Arctic jail last week, said on Thursday that the authorities are forcing her to bury her son in a “secret” way.

“They are coercing me. They impose restrictions on where, when and how Alexei should be laid to rest. This is unlawful,” she said in a message shared by her team. “They want it to be hidden,” she added.

She also mentioned that the investigators let her see his body after days of denying her access to the mortuary.

“Yesterday afternoon they secretly brought me to the mortuary, where they showed me Alexei,” she said from Salekhard, the nearest city to the Arctic jail where the politician passed away.

Navalny’s mother filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in court to urge the authorities to expedite the release of the body, something that she had already requested from the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, the day before.

The lawsuit against the “failure of the Russian Investigative Committee” to deliver the body of the rival to his family was filed after the mother’s letter to Putin: “I am writing to you, Vladimir Putin. The resolution of this issue depends only on you. Let me see my son for the last time!”

Navalnaya had said in a video posted on YouTube and X on Tuesday. The Russian politician, known as the Kremlin’s top enemy, died unexpectedly on the 16th of last month in the “Polar Wolf” Arctic jail.

Navalny’s widow and his team directly accuse the Russian president of ordering the killing of his main political rival. The Kremlin dismissed the allegations against the Russian leader as “groundless” and “impolite.”

The United Kingdom will ban and freeze the assets in this country of those involved in the Arctic jail where Russian rival Alexei Navalny was “imprisoned and killed.”

This is according to the list of new sanctions announced on Wednesday by the British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron.

The United Kingdom is the first country to impose sanctions in response to the death of the Russian rival.
