Israel strikes on Syrian and Lebanese targets

The Israeli Army initiated a series of attacks on Syria this Friday. The Israel strikes come in response to previous offensives launched by pro-Iranian militias operating within Syrian territory.

Earlier, an Israeli military spokesperson reported that sirens had sounded in the northern part of the country due to “two launches (of projectiles) that were identified as crossing from Syria.” Fortunately, both “landed in open fields,” and no casualties were reported.

Furthermore, in recent hours, the northern border found itself amidst another episode of crossfire, this time originating from neighboring Lebanon. Hezbollah terrorists attempted to target Israeli Defense Forces infrastructure on eight occasions.

In response to these hostilities, Israel ordered attacks on the infrastructure of the Lebanese Shiite militia and their launching sites, as well as targets in Syria, in two offensives within a span of just two hours.

The first offensive targeted the southern province of Al Sueida, while the second struck the outskirts of Damascus. Both operations targeted areas housing installations linked to the government forces’ anti-aircraft defenses and resulted in material damage.

Israel had previously scored another victory in Syria earlier in the week when an offensive in the Sayyida Zeinab area targeted and killed an officer of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

On Monday, the official Iranian news agency, Mehr, confirmed that as a result of Israel strikes in a location near the capital, “a prominent military advisor of the IRGC in Syria,” identified as Seyyed Razi Mousavi, was killed. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights corroborated that “the Israeli attacks targeted a high-ranking figure” and that “the missiles hit two Hezbollah militia sites near the Syrian regime’s electronic warfare department.”

Additionally, on December 9, Hezbollah’s leader in southern Syria and the son of a high-ranking organization member, Ali Mussa Dakdouk, was killed in a drone attack.

This situation has put the armed groups in the region on high alert, prompting a swift “deployment of pro-Iranian militants and several checkpoints.”

Consequently, Syria joins the front where Israel continues to engage with Hezbollah, particularly along the northern border. Israel advocates for a diplomatic agreement that would enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and halt Hezbollah’s hostilities.

While negotiations for a peaceful resolution to this conflict are ongoing, the Defense Forces have escalated their offensives in recent days to deter the enemy and push them away from the region.

“In the past two days, we have completed a series of widespread attacks using fighter jets, tanks, and artillery against Hezbollah targets,” acknowledged spokesperson Daniel Hagari, who previously stated that “the hourglass for a diplomatic agreement is running out, and all options are on the table to ensure the security of the State of Israel and return the northern residents to their homes.”
